Well, they're somewhat arbitrary in Siranai, but there are a few groups =
of
vaguely related words in each category. Some "east" words refer to =
origins
and some "west" words refer to motion, from the sun rising in the east =
and
moving westward. So for instance, "egg" is east and "animal" is west.
"North" words often refer to heat or forests, characteristics of the
tropics to the north, and "south" words to rocks, ice, and cold,
characteristics of the southern polar region. But many words just have to
be memorized: "eye" is south, "wind" is north, and "fur" is east.
