A bit of a mix, it is:-)
What do you think about degrees of integration (or incorporation) ?
Main Phrase = independent word+ independent word, etc.
Connective Phrase :
Adjective Phrase = word + dependent phrase
Adverb Phrase = phrase + dependent phrase
Adjective = (word +) dependent word
Compound word = subword + subword + etc.
Direction of branching is usually the same for all these degrees of integration in most
natlangs except that sometime word order inside a compound word is reversed
(English, Esperanto, Japanese) and long adjectives follow the noun in English.
In other words one 'word order' is applying to all degrees of integration, from
sentence to compound word. The alternative would be pronouns referring to parts
of speach (like : 'the latter word', 'the following phrase', etc.) which is
difficult to learn. So I suggest that you agree FIRST on that word order
together otherwise a little bird told me you will get in trouble.
