You mean there is a /v/ phoneme in Dutch? And here I've always thought that Dutch <v> was just a spelling of /f/ like in German. (Of course the Germans spell their /v/ as <w>, but I also thought I knew that <w> is /w/ in Dutch. Probably wrong as well, though). Dutch can be quite... challenging to pronounce. To me it looks like you should just be able to start from a German pronunciation and adapt. But by now I've discovered so many differences that they sort of block each other, and I always miss out applying one of them. It would be easier if I knew the language, of course. (We have a Dutch librarian at work, and I tried to show off the other day and pronounce the name of Aard van Wijngaarden to her. /Ard fan w@jnGArde/, right? But I missed deleting the final <n>).
