IF Aussies have a reputation for pronouncing every vowel as schwa it is
probably due to the fact that unlike most British and American accents
Aussie accents usually have only one unstressed vowel quality [@], so that
_chatted_ and _chattered_ both sound the same, inlike the situation in
RP. Thus sayeth the reference work.
