To me, too. They come across as a great people who have been very nearly
broken, which is pretty similar to what they are in the book.

Was it as bad as Galadriel's refusal to take the ring in FotR? That scene
made me groan the first time I saw it, and I still cringe when it comes
up. The exorcism didn't bother me nearly so much.

Wouldn't surprise me. I wouldn't miss it much, either.

Happy end? Unless they completely mutilate the ending by not having Frodo
leave for the Gray Havens, the ending will be less than happy. In fact,
the melancholy of the book's ending is one of my favorite things about it.
They'd better not change that.
