Well, for me "clothing optional" means that if someone wants to wear
something, they can do so without getting strange looks and if
someone wants to wear nothing, that's also accepted; while "nudist"
means that nudity, except in clearly impossible cases, is mandatory.
Not quite the same. Unless it is, indeed, an euphemism, and I'm not
getting it at all.
