Only in the nominative case of the masculine form. And yes, it is the result of a merger from Lat. un(um) with OSl. *jedin(u). Wenedyk has no articles, but it could very well be that it had them in the past and lost them under Slavic influence; in that case uden was introduced in order to distinguish the numeral from the indefinite article. Or am I going too far now?

In Polish /rz/ is normally pronounced [Z]. It appears in those places where Russian has a slender [r'] and Czech has the retroflex /r^/. However, at the end of a word or after an unvoiced stop, it is pronounced [S]: krzak [kSak] przed [pSet] trzy [tSI] So yes, you are actually right.

No problem at all. But I think it took me quite some effort fourteen years ago when I started to learn Polish.

The latter: centum > cze~tu > czat The word for 100 in the Slavic languages (I think all of them) is |sto|.
