I thought something like this:
ambulare > amblare > amlare (exotic) > anlare (I've never seen this before)

Ah, and I just checked my portuguese dictionary... and he guesses more or
less the same, quoting romanian "îmnare" as cognate.
That situation of stop + liquid reminds me of:
memorare > memrare > nembrare > lembrar, in portuguese, or
n-mrtós > ambrotós, in ancient greek.
