Well the stem of "vesi" is "vete-"; in many Finnish words the stem form is
different from the nominative, like the stem of "uusi" (new) is
"uude". Also the "vajen" probably comes out of Finnish, though "vai" and
its various forms in Finnic languages mean "or", or form questions.
