You asked for a romlang ... without looking at my notes, I'd say a Vallés
translation might be:
Non sabeve què fusses filosof.
If *you* was being emphasized:
Non sabeve què tu fusses filosof.
If *I* was being emphasized:
Jo non sabeve què fusses filosof.
