Could you be thinking of Korean?
Korean is made up of little pieces, so for instance you take /p/ and /a/
and put them together and you get the syllable for /pa/.
ObConlang: My conlang [ti:E:G] does the same thing. Most of the symbols
were actually based right on Korean.
