The existing TIPA Type 1 fonts are in the "times-compatible" (xipa) version
of TIPA, and don't look at all nice together with real Computer Modern
fonts (nor with real Times fonts...)
I agree that typographic uniformity might seem like a luxury problem, but
the real problem here is how readable the result is.
