Sure. I did say very limited experience!
The FAZ seems to prefer 'Chan' as common noun; I cannot recall reading of
Temmüjin (I suppose German writes "Temmüdschin"?) in it, but it did use 'Khan'
in the personal names of some Afghanistani figures.
