| I seem to've missed your original message, Danny, but what happened with
| your "Trollish" language, called LINKA I think, which was also spoken by
| some sort of revived early hominids? Is this "Orcish language" some sort of
| continuation of that?
I scrapped the project, but I might bring it back. That was the Orcish language,
but I'm only using the term Orc (or Troll) as a convenient term for a primitive
human living in the modern era (after some genetic engineering). They're
physically strong but mentally weak, so they're bred mostly as slaves and grunt
soldiers, sadly.
It was called LINCA or LINKA (forgot which) because at the time it was a heavily
simplified Latin. Most likely they'll be speaking a minimalist IAL with Latin,
Greek, English, French and other borrowings (in other words, a Euroclone).
The alphabet and phonology go something like this:
P = [p]/[b]
M = [m]
T = [t]/[d]
N = [n]; [N] before C and word-finally
L = [l]/[r]
S = [s]/[z]; [S]/[Z] before I
Y = [j]
C = [k]/[g]
H = [h]/[?]
A = [a]/[@]
I = [i]/[e]
U = [u]/[o]
Slashes indicates pairs of allophones, and all letters are written in capitals
(they don't like miniscules). There are no tones and all syllables get equal
stress.
| If you're intresested in my vision of an Orkish (as I like to spell it)
| language, you may check out the stuff on "Yargish" on my page at
| andjo.free.fr (tho' this is tolkienesque-RPGic greenskinned Orcs). When I
| get time, I hope to write a more comprehensive and nicerly-laid-out article
| on it.
I'll check it out! And it's official, the Orcs are now known as Trolls. Needed
to de-Tolkienize somehow.
