"Dream" is undoubtedly my own "Dream Language". A
couple years back there was a discussion on
conlanging in dreams and I mentioned that I had
dreamt a kind of strange anatomy lesson in a sort
of Welsh-Gaelic language. I went out and bought a
Welsh dictionary after just to see how close (or
if) I got some of the words. Some came pretty
close, for never having studied Welsh.
The numbers are: zhen, ddeu, ddri, cah, cou,
selk, sah, ock, nein, zhack, zhenzhack,
ddeuzhack, etc.
[One and two are closer to Cumbrian, which I had
seen before. Most of the others are Gaelic.]
It has a sort of umlaut system; a reduced
Celtic-like declension system; strong v. weak
verbal conjugation; VSO word order. Most of the
verbal stuff was constructed outside of the dream
state.
If you're interested in a quick project, here is
the dream text (a chant, really):
1. zhen ddeu ddri naiv im.mair; selk nein
dd'zhack im.meiriv cah;
2. zhen ddeu ddri cah cou naiv in.gluir;
3. con.ddeu im.boidd; co.sah in.gail; an lav;
con.ddri don.guir.
an, the
bod, thumb
cal, wrist
clur, palm
co, with
cur, arm
don, to, in
in, within, inside of
lav, hand
mar, finger
nav, bone
The numbers as above.
Nasal prepositions cause nasal mutation; root
vowels show umlaut in the dative (different
series for singular and plural, though).
Padraic.
