Actually, Mark was written first.
And at any rate, these are common elements in M/M/L that aren't in
John. Thus, whether they're true or not, suggests a common source for
the first three separate from John. In 3 years (or however long Jesus'
ministry actually was), there would be a lot of events that could be
written about. Mark (or whoever) chose certain stories to write about,
while John chose others. Matthew and Luke then based their text on
Mark, adding stories that they'd remembered.
