Where does güero come from? I wish I knew. I do remember a restaurant in South Austin named Güero's, just a simple but excellent Mexican eatery which happened to have some pretty awesome queso dip and fresh salsa, green as well as red, and _pico de gallo_ (if you don't know Tex-Mex that's a mix of chopped tomatoes, garlic, onion, serrano peppers, and lime juice, which functions as a chunky salsa as well as a garnish for taco salad or tacos). (_pico de gallo_... a Celtic invention?)

There's also a tasty little cream-puff known as "pet de nonne". Another pastry is called "puit d'amour', which a friend once distorted to "une nuit d'amour, s.v.p." That raised some eyebrows. (Apocryphal, I suspect.) I actually slipped on my tongue and said this to a customer when I worked at a convenience store: "What can I do you for?" (a popular perversion of "What can I do for you?"). And "I got things to see and people to do". Somewhere in the history of English, "to do" got applied to sexual intercourse, just as Hebrew came up with "to know".) DaW.
