Yes, there certainly could be an influence, but how did it get to the
Portuguese colonizers? I remember being surprised the first time I heard
about Hy Braseail (it said Hy Brasil actually).
Anyway the only reference to this I have is having read Jack Vance's
Lyonesse trilogy, taking place in the mythical Elder Islands, of which the
largest one was Hy Braseail/Brasil -- but it was in the North Atlantic,
between the British Isles and Vizcaya (North Spain).
