Yes. I recently read (and subsequently misplaced) a webpage about all
the things Bakshi did wrongly, and it notes that Saruman was renamed
Aruman in the film, purportedly because it sounded too much like
Sauron.
I would probably have a chance of mishearing it on, say, a telephone
line but ... anyway, everyone tends to agree that it's a bit of a
travesty. Considering the large gap in which no more attempts to make
a movie have been made, I would say the Bakshi adaptation was more a
cautionary tale to other future directors :D
