Well, I am a native English speaker, and my feeling on
this is about the same as yours... when I think about
it I know it's supposed to be /EndZl&N/ or something
like that, but that mid-word -ge- does _not_ sit right
with me and I keep wanting to pronounce it in my mind
the same way as you...
