- After having taken Yiddish for a year (which also derounds German's front-rounded vowels), i've begun to pronounce {ü} as /i/ and {ö} as /ej/, but generally only for *new* words and names that i come across. So "möbius" is still [mowbi@s], but "hügel" in that Schiller poem i would pronounce like Schiller, with an /i/ sound. And i also pronounce "über" as /ibr=/ or /ibEr/, because it's "iber" in Yiddish. -Stephen (Steg) "ale next mit dreidl špiln mir..."
