I noticed this also. Bulma actually means "Bloomers" I hear. Also some of
the other characters in that show have strange names as well, like Nail,
Piccolo, Vegeta (in English: /vEji:t@/ ). One has the name "Jayce" (and
the voice actor has an Australian accent). Gohan's mother has the name
"Chichi" which i find interesting because i took it to mean "father" in
Japanese (unless it means something else).
In Gundam Wing, there are characters with the last names Noventa, Veinte
(not sure on the spelling). One with the first name of Treize (/trejz/)
which sounds close to the way many Americans say "tres" (though he's
supposed to be from Germany. Maybe it's a German name, or made up to sound
like it). Another character has the name "une" (said like the un in
"under). And yet another had his last name as "septum".
