So you're now saying that you weren't influenced enough by English to notice the e vs ä split? Very interesting... Yes, they do make a difference between [E] and [{], and this difference is well respected by German and other language speakers. Yet they completely refuse to acknowledge that other languages, like German, make similar distinctions and claim that it is only one sound.
