Well, in defence of lurkers (I happen to know a few of them) this list has
a really heavy traffic and to read all the posts received through it takes
quite a lot of time, and answering even more. Not everybody has enough time
in real life to participate the discussions. Generally, that's the argument
I receive when I try to convince a lurker to delurk.
There's also a problem of timidity. I think quite a few lurkers are a
little afraid. When you see how high in technicity some of our discussions
go, I can understand that a beginner can be afraid of manifest him/herself
in 'la cour des grands'. To those people I answer that they mustn't be
afraid, they certainly know as much as us, and sometimes even more. I admit
that most of my knowledge of linguistics comes (directly or not) from the
list. When I began to post (one day after my subscription!), I was really a
novice, and yet I was really well received.
So I join my voice to Dan. Delurk please! We'd love to know about you and
your conlangs. The more people participate, the richer the list is.
