Actually, the fact that Word only lets you insert symbols from certain fonts
(without typing in the names) isn't really a problem. I'm defining shortcut
keys for all of the combining diacritics I need (as I have a font with many
of them). So the process will be something like - type the character in the
regular font (Book Antiqua for me), then hit the keys to insert the
diacritic, which will be from the other font.
