If you distinguish q x j from ch sh zh, then you can write i after either of
them for the "voicing" final. If you don't distinguish q x j from ch sh zh,
then you have to have a method for distinguishing the retroflexed voicing
final from the alveolopalatal voicing final. Pinyin uses the first strategy,
GR uses the second (written i vs written y), WG uses a mixed strategy,
mostly the second (written i vs. written ih) with a redundant distinction
between sh (retroflex) and hs (alveolopalatal).

These finals are not pinyin, but a mixture of pinyin and WG, I think.
