It sounds like a plausible hypothesis (I would tend to agree), but I don't know what the data says about it. Homosexuality has been found quite often even among solitary insects, so I don't know if the complexity of the society is important here (although social animals have of course more occasions to bond than solitary ones, so homosexuality is more commonly seen among them).

Although if you look at it, the Bonobos are the really intelligent ones, having completely replaced violence with sex. What's more intelligent than that? ;)))))) Note that I understood your point and agree with it. I just thought this remark was meaningful too :)) . I've always admired the Bonobos, being the only non-violent high primates in existence.
