Of course the real reason why one can't use "eight" as the base is found in
Terry Pratchett's "The Colour of Magic", where the wizard Rincewind has an
unpleasant encounter with Bel-Shamharath, the Sender of Eight, the Soul
Render - though an eight base with a forty-two - the reason for life, the
universe and everything - base top level a la the Sumerian number system with
their ten base with the sixty base - would make an interesting project.

Just a thought.
