Sorry to say, I agree. The "faces" and "tongues" are a bit cartoonish, and
look rather like sperms.... In any case, if purple is used, then their
black tongues won't show up, will they?
How about lion heads, or dragon/griffin heads, with tongues protruding and
looping around toward the center, where they could finish up at either side
of a Celtic knot (or other) design? Perhaps a (black?) star, in left-handed
hommage à Zamenhof. In that case both heads/tongues could be gold. I'm sure
there are stock images of such heads; the tongues would have to be enhanced
manually, though.
IIRC Marc Pasquin, who contributes alot to IB/Conculture, is very
knowledgeable about vexillology, and might help; if I remember aright, he's
involved with the Flags of the World website.
