It may just have been a spelling mistake (a single 's' of difference, bringing a word which is not *too* far in meaning from the intended word. It's enough to make people look over it and to make spellcheckers ignore it).

You would be amazed at what you can accomplish with not large mirrors simply by putting them in the right position (you can make a room look twice as big as it already is, but also twice as small, just by a matter of orientation :) ).
