Well ... I'm from Pensacola, Florida (far northwest), but that's not
where my pronunciation's from. My pronunciation's rather unusual.
Apparently based on a pronunciation picked up from a speech therapist,
but there must be other influences that I can't figure out (since my
mother tells me that her accent was slight), maybe an subconscious
desire to sound different. :-) I've heard many guesses as to location,
the most recent I heard was "sounds kind of like South African", which
was a new one. I've usually heard "England/Britain" or "Germany",
occasionally "Australia", or "Austria" or "Eastern Europe".
BTW, I'm one of those people who *hates* to hear a recording of their
own voice.
If you wish, I could send you a wave file of me saying "sing", "seen",
and also "sin" for comparison.
