I don't mind at all!
Another idea might be inserting epenthetic(?) vowels, possibly colored by
neighboring ones, so for instance:
*kbáli >> k@báli
*trí >> tIrí
Or you could just simplify clusters:
*pbali >> bali
Or merge consonants:
*kpud >> (kp)ud (i love double-articulation!)
*tkal >> t<velarized>al
