We also use the verb "catechize," to teach the catechism, and the
noun "catechesis," instruction from the catechism.
There is also the word "catechumen." It looks like it might be from
a present participle. In the Catholic Church this means one who is
studying the Christian faith & is not yet baptized. Those who are
studying the Catholic faith, with the intention of joining, and are
baptized in some other Christian faith are known as candidates.
