Hebrew uses the phrase _`al-yedey_, literally "on (the) hands of".
ex. _nishmarti `al-yedey hashotteir_ "i was guarded by the police
officer"
Using the singular form, on the other hand, _`al-yad_ "on (the) hand of",
means "next to"
ex. _hakartis nimtza `al-yad hadelet_ "the ticket is situated next to the
door"
Both of which, i just noticed, can be translated as "by" in English...
I'm planning on using a calque of _`al-yedey_ for "by" in Jûdajca...
something like _pel-manî_...
for instance, *_ammôs pel-manî huppeyyônârû_ would be "i am loved by the
people".
