I am probably one of the few who wasn't directly inspired by Tolkien. I have to
admit that my main inspiration was *gasp* Esperanto. While browsing the
internet looking at composer's sites, I found a guy who claimed to be an
Esperantist, and who claimed that it was worth knowing. Not knowing any better,
I researched it and thought it would be cool to learn. So I did some of the
internet courses and lost interest pretty quickly. As a creative-type person
(composer) I would rather make my own intellectual activities than spend time
learning someone else's. [That is why I am a composer and not a performer--I'd
rather write music than learn a piece by someone else.]
So, with Esperanto out of the way, I did a search for constructed languages and
came across Flores' and Rosenfelder's sites which kicked off the (still fairly
dormant) interest in constructed languages.
