Strange, because Dyaus, Zeus and Ju(ppiter) *are* cognates of deus, daeva, and
all come from PIE *deiwos. The case of "Juppiter" is extremely clear, since it
comes from *deiwos-pHter (the H is one of the PIE laryngeals, but I can't
remember its number. Anyway, it's the one that gave the short a in Latin pater,
and the short i in Sanskrit pitar): deus-pater. So the claim of your textbook
is quite contradictory :)) .
