Hmmm, I'm not certain, but the word rings a bell.

I *believe* it is from the book "Gnomes" by Portviet (sp?), a large,
lavishly illustrated book in watercolor with large parts of the text
hand-written.  It basically lays out the entire culture of the
gnomes. There's a lot of Germanic/Slavic influences apparent in the
conculture.
