I don't know either, it could be [fa?a:] or [fa?a?a] for [fa:?a] but I'd bet
there's a glottal stop somewhere in there :-) Many Polynesian languages use
VV to indicate long vowels; and in a few cases they don't indicate glottal
stop either. Older written Hawaiian IIRC was guilty of this; but not
anymore.......
