False friend? I ask because in French, "ignorer" means (AFAIK) "to be ignorant of; to not know", which seems to fit the sentence better -- in English, "ignore" usually means something like "to be aware of (a fact) but deliberately not take it into consideration" or "to cast aside (advice)" -- a more active method.
