Gallophobia - why all this fear of Turkeys?
Seriously, French was always my favourite subject at school (probably 'cos
it was my best subject too) and when the time came to do German, I looked
forward to it just as much. As I was teaching myself Welsh at the time,
there was a nice spread of langs - Romance, Germanic and Celtic. I've
certainly detected a lot of the "German sounds awful" attitude, for which I
suppose old WW2 films are responsible. My first contact with German was
Beethoven's 9th and the language doesn't strike me personally as 'harsh'.
What languages do our German-speaking friends regard as 'unaesthetic'?
