Thanks. Lompoc is a town in California. Funny, isn't it? I looked at a map showing Wallace's Line (at http://www.radford.edu/~swoodwar/CLASSES/GEOG235/zoogeog/walline.html), saw "Lombok", and typed "Lompok".

No, Darwin was scrupulously fair. He could have just stuffed Wallace's paper down the oubliette: instead, he made sure that it was published along with his own. It certainly wasn't anybody's fault that Darwin had, and Wallace had not, spent decades of his life collecting evidence toward his _magnum opus_ (of which _The Origin of Species_ was only a hasty abridgement). Later on they disagreed on some points, but civilly. Wallace thought that the large and complex human brain, able to do things seemingly far beyond any discernible need, was evidence of divine intervention at just this one point; Darwin wasn't so sure. -- John Cowan http://www.ccil.org/~cowan cowan@ccil.org To say that Bilbo's breath was taken away is no description at all. There are no words left to express his staggerment, since Men changed the language that they learned of elves in the days when all the world was wonderful. --_The Hobbit_
