The distinction which I was talking about was not between palatalized
consonants, and a consonant plus palatal glide. For example; [p_j] and
[p_jj] (or [pj]) - I know this distinction exists.
What I was talking about was a distinction between (unpalatalized)
consonant + glide, and palatalized consonant + glide. That is to say, a
distinction between [pj] and [p_jj] .
