You know, this reminds me. I remember reading something on the web about a
group in Japan using Korean hangul (but altered enough so that it looked a
bit different, but was basically hangul) to say that the Japanese did
originally have a writing system of their own. All that because they were
supposedly embarassed because until contact with Korea, Japan had no
system of writing.
