Interesting. Let's see how these apply to Cein, spoken by
the Nolltod in Middle-earth.
> 1. birch (the tree)
Birch in Cein is a loanword from Sindarin: _rethil_ [rE"TIl].
(From Sindarin _brethil_. The /b/ disappears because Cein
doesn't allow initial consonant clusters.
> 2. werewolf / lycanthrope of some variety
I know there are werewolves in Middle-earth. The Quenya word
is _nauro_ (from -NGAW) which makes it _nor_ [no(:)r] in Cein.
(I haven't decided yet if syllable final /r/ lengthens the vowel.
The spelling isn't affected anyway.)
> 3. to save (money)
Well, the Nolltod don't really use money and in any case
they're not interested in saving any. There is a word 'save'
_sar-_, which means 'to rescue/guard from danger or harm',
and there is another word _dau-_ [d@j] meaning 'to store',
related to _daun_ 'ant'. I'm guessing _dau-_ is the word to
use if they wanted to save money.
> 4. to conquer
_Maf-_ [ma:v]. Related to _ma_ 'hand'.
> 5. motif
1. 'theme, pattern' _nwss_ [nUs]. Related to the words 'kin'
_nosse_ and 'kind' _nostale_.
2. 'musical theme' _llinnwss_ [KI"nUs]. (From _llinn_ 'song' and
_nwss_ 'theme, pattern'.
