I didn't notice the rhyme in the first half either (only in the "One Ring"
part), until I did the translation for this text.

Well, English has probably more foreign influences that the other Germanic
langs, so while these are understandable in the others, the English words
are quite different. The original Proto-Germanic roots are "duska" ->
"dunkel" (English "dusk" is a cognate here) and "therban" ->"sterben" in
German, sterv/f* in others.
