Should've said, "one of my favorites," but it's Naomi Shihab Nye's _A Maze Me_. It
struck me that it would be good for a core because her images are so sharp and
vivid. But I guess a lot of books would be good for this. I tried the Swadesh
list approach but felt, similarly to what Yitzik has described, that that
approach was stifling and dry. (Besides, this is MY vocabulary; if I want to go
peruse my book on Tolkien's languages and make sure I haven't missed any great
words, so be it! ;-)
