Re: translation exercise

The following, a new year quote from King George VI of New Zealand from
1937, came to mind as a easy translation exercise appropriate for the
celebration.

In English:

I said to the man who stood at the Gate of the Year, "Give me a light
that I may tread safely into the unknown."  And he replied, "Go out into
the darkness, and put your hand into the Hand of God.  That shall be
better than light, and safer than a known way.

In Vayaun:

A tarmo esakan karmo a dhora annar ethoth: Dadhe liutham ammai ka inn
unjunati uppyontai punnerm tai.  Cha entsvart: Laididh en khuri, che
dhedh tevan hesor en meni divas.  Ir liuthar opervit, cha uppyason
junador laidor ethe tai.

To that_one I_said who at door of_year stood: give light to_me that in
unknown safely I_may_tread endquote.  And he_answered: Go_forth in
darkness, and put your hand in hand of_god.  Itself of_light
is_superior, and safer of_known of_way is endquote.
