Adrian, just read your first reply (to me) and I am replying to that
without having read any other replies. If anyone out there knows the
Maine accent (from Maine in the USA) then they may know of what I
speak.
I say that, yes it is a tripthong. At least in how I pronounce those
words (Our, Devour...) also, interestingly and I wonder if it is the
same for you, I pronounce "Shower" and "Power" and "hour" and "tower"
and "glower" and "Flower" with the same tripthong.
Well...Also when I pronounce a word like "soda" I pronounce it
/soUdR/ that is IPA-ASCII /s/ /oU/ /d/ /R/

I'd be interested to know if you do the same, or not? I am not
kidding when I say last time I was in Portland, Oregon a waitress
thought I was from Australia. I thought that was funny.
In any case, interesting to delve into...
Cheers,
-Aleks
