Well, I have had the idea too a while back, but it is still on the shelf. I wrote something about it in the chapter of the lecture notes for David's conlang class (the lucky bastard, getting paid to teach conlanging). I could imagine a culture where a certain set of dyes are readily available, using them as a distinguishing element in the script. Though I would be careful not to use color to indicate any low-level significance, such as phonemic value oslt. It would be a pain picking a new color for each letter. But you could change color at the syllable/word/morpheme level or better yet, at the level of a sentence. Different color could be used for different tones, emphasis/stress, word functions, sentence functions (questions in red, exclamations in blue etc). Maarten
