Strange. You Aussies seem to be more prone to making trademarks common
nouns than we Americans. :-) They're always called "mechanical
pencils" or sometimes just "pencils" here.

I prefer pencils myself, except when I'm in a situation where I can't
easily sharpen it, then I'll use a pen, so as not to have to worry about
breaking the lead.
